Inevitable

The issue of gay marriage is getting old. Just let it happen already! I couldn't believe it when California made it legal then took the right away.

Whoever is fighting this is fighting a losing battle. They must know that it's inevitable. People fought making African American's citizens and to let women vote and those were inevitable too. It just makes sense that everyone should be free, everyone should be able to vote, and everyone should be able to marry who he or she wants to marry.

I understand that biologically, homosexuality doesn't work. Man and man don't make a baby, but there are plenty of babies to go around. Plenty of gay couples have adopted and lived happily together as a family. It's wrong to stop parents from making official. Yes, there are commitment vows and promise rings but it's not the same. Committed is what Martha is at the animal shelter on Saturdays and promise rings are what high school boys give their girlfriends so they can get them in bed. A marriage is a sacred thing between two people who love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together. Gender is not even in the definition.

I often wonder who the people are that oppose the right to marry. I think it is because most of our representatives are men and most men are reluctant to even approach the issue. All the women I have talked to about this support the right to marry, but I have trouble getting anything out of men. I suppose they just don't understand a man loving another man and that's why they're opposed to it. Even my dad, who is usually more than willing to express his opinion completely shuts down and will only say, "I don't like it." It is so frustrating trying to understand what men think the problem is.

My point is: Just past the law already! Sooner rather than later, it's the right thing to do.

Magazine Obama Cover

I just finished reading Michelle Malkin's blog about the Best Obama Magazine Cover. I used to get Rolling Stone in the mail, but after the 4th Obama cover I cancelled my subscription. It was getting ridiculous, like Michelle said: they are Obama cultists. I can understand him being on the cover of magazines, but 5 times on the cover of Rolling Stone is too many. Once a reader wrote in and said "RS and Obama need to get a room". And I totally agree, people need to stop giving him this godly light, it is getting so annoying. Michelle even quoted in her blog "Didn’t we see a gazillion, halo-encircled hagiographic photos capturing the “quiet charisma” and ineffable glow over the last two years?" I don't think I've seen a photo of him that portrays him as a real person. If he is a man for the people, then why isn't he more like us in pictures? Why must he look like he is above us, the Chosen One?
Probably the only people reading Michelle's blog agree with her so her intended audience are people that think and feel the way she does, but I can hope that at least one Obama worshiper stumbles onto her site and feels a little ashamed of their worshiping.
Why did the Magazine Publishers of America feel the need to create a new category this year just for Obama? I don't know but I didn't know Obama was a category like sports, nature, or food. But whatever.... if that's what floats people's boats, fine.

To Drill or Not to Drill

I am a big supporter of environmental issues and I write to my Senator, John Cornyn, often to express my opinion on how he should vote. He usually is against me and writes me a letter full of B.S. and I was starting to lose my faith in him. But his article in the Houston Chronicle changed my mind about him. It's about the ever waging war between people who want to drill in U.S. and people who don't. He makes his argument to Texans, mostly probably people like me who are environmentalists and who can't see past the naked mole rats that might die if we drill. Many of the things he says in the article I wasn't aware of; that the oil industry in Texas generates 7% of the state's wages and that more than 90% of the oil wells in the U.S. are operated by small and independent businesses. If the government decides to import oil, these small businesses won't be able to compete with the huge oil companies overseas and more than 300,000 jobs will be lost in Texas alone.
For once I am agreeing with Senator Cornyn, we need to drill here in the U.S. The U.S. needs to become independent of foreign energy sources and needs to take care of their workers, there are enough people out of work as it is. How will those out-of-workers pay the increase in taxes for foreign oil?
Texas is probably the state that has self-sufficient energy sources. We have the oil that we are maybe going to drill, nuclear power plants that emit NO greenhouse gases, and 8,000 megawatts of wind energy which is more than twice that of any other state.
I'm all about saving the endangered species, I'm a member of WWF, but I think this oil issue goes beyond that, we need to become a self-sufficient nation, the future depends on it.

Obama Calls Kanye West a Jackass

When I read this article I couldn't help but laugh. Everyone is in an uproar about it but I don't see the big deal. Until this moment, Obama hasn't really made himself seem like a regular guy. I think this disappoints alot of people who like to see him as more than a regular guy. Yes, Obama has opinions about things other than U.S. Government, and yes, (!) he curses. He's not some god or messiah after all. I'm so glad this was caught on audio because I think this will really make Kanye feel remorse for what he's done. The president called him a jackass, the guy who Kanye spent months promoting during the elections. This incident made me have more respect for Obama funnily enough. It was the most truthful thing I've ever heard a politician say. I knew he meant it and I knew there was no hidden agendas. It was a great relief to hear.
You may not think this is that big of a thing, that it is not worth blogging about, but I feel like it really is. This wasn't in Entertainments Weekly, it was on BBC, a respectable news station. This article was the 3rd popular story on the website. "Gene cure for color blindness", "China in huge Venezula oil deal" and "US Bank executives subpoenaed" were less popular articles read, which makes me laugh so hard. Well at least we got people to the news website, next step is to make them click on important articles, ones that don't involve Kanye West.
